This ring features a Cantera Opal from @scddestash. This fire opal has fire within it! It was difficult to catch the color play with a camera but it is most definitely there.
My process: I sized the serrated fine silver bezel and then soldered it closed and soldered it to sterling silver sheet metal. The sheet was trimmed with a jeweler’s saw and hand filed smooth. The half round sterling wire was formed into a ring shank and attached to the back of the backplate. The ring then took a spin in the tumbler for a final polish and hardening before I set the stone.
Here’s some info for my fellow rock geeks: Cantera opals are Mexican Fire Opals that are cut and polished still in their Rhyolite matrix. Not all fire opals have color play.
Materials: Fine silver, Sterling silver, Cantera Opal
Dimensions: approximately 11/16" ( 17 mm) tall by 7/16” ( 11mm) wide. The band is 12 gauge double half round. Size 5
Please keep in mind that all pieces of jewelry from Tabby Cat are handmade using natural gemstones. Handmade means that there may be marks from the tools used in the process of making the setting. Natural gemstones are just that- natural. They may have pits in the surface or inclusions visible in transparent and translucent stones. These things just add to the charm of piece.
